Why steam cleaning? A steam machine can clean everything from hospital beds, upholstery, to hard surfaces. This includes flooring, countertops, tiles, stones, appliances, glass and mirrors. A steam vapor machine produces minimum amount of water while having the benefit of releasing dirt. Think of your dishwasher and the heat generated that releases the caked on debris on dishes and glasses.
Steam vapor machines produce and use heat that is over 300F degrees. The output can clean almost anything it encounters. For decades if not longer, steam has been used to clean, sanitize, and sterilize. Since COVID-19, people are constantly looking for better ways to sanitize surfaces.
The amount of heat provided by certain steam machines, kills almost all bacteria within 3-5 seconds of contact. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines state that it is necessary to have something that will breakdown the biofilm around bacteria and viruses. Without making any direct claims it is known that heat helps deteriorate the biofilm, allowing for direct contact to the bacteria and viruses. This, helps rid of it from the surface.
STEAM versus CHEMICALS
When it comes to “high touch areas” including countertops, furniture, door handles, elevator buttons and similar things we touch often, are we really sanitizing the surface or just making it look clean?
The EPA and CDC provides a list of chemicals that meet the guidelines needed in the battle against COVID-19 as well as other viruses and bacteria. Chemicals work if the dwell time instructions are followed. Dwell time is how long a chemical must sit on a surface to remove a germ or a virus. Spraying and immediately wiping a surface does not mean the surface has been sanitized.
Steam works faster than any chemical contained in typical cleansing agents. With a dwell time measured in single digit seconds, steam vapor is far more efficient and environmentally friendly than chemical cleaning. Steam is a proven killer of many pathogens. Steam cleaning will help mitigate the spread of viruses and bacteria as well as efficiently clean. With steam cleaners it is almost always not necessary to use any chemicals and there is no need to follow specific directions like with chemical detergents to ensure effectiveness. All that is typically necessary is to apply the steam for 5-10 seconds, allowing the heat to penetrate surface and kill bacteria, germs, and viruses. And the heat releases the dirt on the surface permitting easier removal. Hence steam is a great asset when it comes to cleaning and sanitizing in an environmentally friendly way and when the steam is used in vapor form the amount of water involved is about 93% reduced from typical steam generation. Perhaps until a magic wand comes along steam vapor cleaning for residential cleaning is a huge advancement in the art of clean.
